Assessment and Grading

All the units for BTEC Level Certificate in Business are internally assessed. The assessment criterion of this qualification is purely based on the achievements of the specified learner outcomes. As such, each unit within BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Business has specified assessment as well as grading criteria to be used for grading purposes. However, a summative unit grade can be awarded as Pass, Merit, or Distinction.

  • Distinction – For a distinction grade to be awarded, the learner must have satisfied all the distinction assessment criteria.

Note: Learners who finish the unit but don’t meet all the pass awarding criteria are graded as ‘unclassified’.

  • Pass – 7 points per credit
  • Merit – 8 points per credit
  • Distinction – 9 points per credit

  • 230 – 249: Merit Grade (M)
  • 250 – 259: Distinction (D)
  • 260 and above: Distinction* (D*)

Mode of Delivery

The BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Business does not have a defined mode of study. As such, centers are at liberty to offer this qualification with any mode of delivery. These may include full-time, part-time, evening only, or distance learning.
