The Edexcel BTEC Level 3 90 – credit Diploma in Business aims at broadening and expanding the specialist work-related focus of the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma. This is because it comes with essential skills, knowledge, and understanding required by a learner to gain confidence and progression.

Qualification of this unit prepares learners for progression within the education or into employment in the appropriate vocational sector. It is also perfect for individuals who want to study in detail or work in a specific area of work.

Rules of Combination for Edexcel BTEC Level 3 90 – credit Diploma in Business

When combining units in BTEC Level 3 90 – credit Diploma in Business, the center should ensure that the following rules of combination are observed:

  • Qualification credit value is at a minimum of 90 credits
  • Minimum credit to be attained at, or above, the level of qualification is 68 credits
  • Compulsory unit credit is 40 credits
  • Optional unit credit is 50 credits
  • A maximum of 10 optional credits can be derived from other Level 3 BTEC units to meet the local needs

Since this is a 90 credit qualification, it consists of four compulsory units plus optional units that combine to deliver a total of 90 credits – where at least 68 of these credits must be at Level 3 or above.

Assessment and Grading

All the above units for this qualification are internally assessed. The assessment in this specification is criterion-referenced, based on the achievement of specified learning outcomes. However, a summative unit grade can be awarded at pass, merit, or distinction.

Grading Domains

Grading criteria are established about grading domains exemplified by several indicative characteristics at this level of qualification. There are four BTEC grading domains for this qualification:

Calculation of the Qualification Grade

  • Pass Qualification Grade

The pass grade is awarded to learners who attain the minimum eligible credit value specified by the rule of combination.

  • Qualification Grades above Pass Grade

Grades above pass include merit, distinction, and distinction*. These grades are awarded to a learner after attaining an aggregation of points after successful completion of individual units. However, the points available are dependent on the grade achieve and the credit size of the unit.

  • Pass – 7 Points per credit
  • Merit – 8 Points per credit
  • Distinction – 9 Points per credit

If a learner achieves the correct points within the ranges stated below, will attain the qualification merit, distinction, or distinction* grade.

Mode of Delivery

There is no define mode of study for the BTEC Level 3 90 – credit Diploma in Business. As such, centers are free to offer this qualification through any mode they wish such as full time, evening only, part-time, or distance learning to meet the needs of their learners. However, whichever the mode of delivery, the centers must ensure the learner has access to resources identified in this qualification and subject specialists delivering the unit.
